This seminar will try to establish, with as much accuracy as the subject allows, what are the central tenets of American Pragmatism, how they have shaped contemporary epistemology and the philosophy of science, and finally, to what extent are pragmatist approaches to human knowledge philosophically sound and fruitful. Each identified the limits, whether historical or innate, of our human capacity to know ourselves and our world, and to live harmoniously with others. After working through these arguments, we will reflect more generally on the proper roles of reason and faith in justifying religious belief.
